Pile height
Pile height is the length of the blade from the backing to the tip. Taller pile looks fuller and feels softer, which suits a front or back lawn. Shorter pile stays upright, is easier to clean and suits putting greens and dog runs. Our turf runs from about half an inch for a putting surface to two inches for the fullest landscape lawns.
Face weight
Face weight is the weight of the blades in ounces per square yard, not counting the backing. It is the best single measure of density. A higher face weight means more yarn in every square yard, so the lawn looks thicker.
Total weight
Total weight adds the backing to the face weight, and it is the number in most of our product names. Antique Deluxe 116oz weighs 116 ounces per square yard in all. When you are judging how thick two lawns are, compare face weights, since backings differ.
Gauge
Gauge is the spacing between the rows of stitches in the backing. A tighter gauge puts the rows closer together. Our landscape turf is stitched at 3/8 inch and our putting turf at 3/16 inch.

Choosing for the job
- For a lawn people will see and use every day, look at the higher face weights and taller pile, such as Antique Deluxe 116oz or Antique Elite 111oz.
- For dogs, Pet Elite 84oz has a shorter pile on a backing built for pets.
- For a putting green, Antique Pro Putt gives a short, tight putting surface.
